Extinction Behaviour

Behavior modification identifies four types of consequences that strengthen, maintain or weaken behavior.

I will like to highlight one form of behaviour.

It is known as Extinction.

Exctinction occurs when the target behavior decreases because no consequence follows it. In this respect, extinction is a do-nothing strategy. Generally, behavior that is no longer reinforced tends to dissapear; it becomes extinct.

Take for example. If you want to bring someone down in terms of performance.

You can simply praise him consistently, hopefully daily. Constantly remind him that he has been doing a great job and that you are envious of his impeccable capability.

After about 2 weeks or so, stop praising him or congratulating him for his good performance.

Afterwhich, his performance level will drop for sure, without a shadow of a doubt. This trick will definitely work because he will start to doubt himself. He will start to wonder why have you stop praising him all of a sudden and all these distractions will naturally get to him.

Of course, he might be able to get out of all these nonsense on his own after a while. However, at the end of the day, you have wasted some of his time, and you can make use of this amount of time to get ahead of him.

This is just an example. Please do not follow or try to execute this kind of bad actions.

Remember, the ultimate winner is the one with a good heart.
