Excel And Access Quiz

After finishing the quiz yesterday, I am proud to say that I can write under my resume that I know how to use Excel's pivot table and subtotals and many other functions in my resume. In addition, I also know a little bit of Access.

Yesterday's quiz was very dramatic, to the extent that we were given an additional 15 minutes because of all the drama.

1. You may begin.

2. Everyone raises their hand and said that they have a missing worksheet in excel. The question stated that there are 7 but all of us only got 6.

3. Invigilitator told us to carry on first while she go and find out what's happening.

4. She walks back in and told us to close all our excel worksheets and wait for the person to come first. The other tutors will bring in the worksheet to us by plugging in the thumbdrive and I was thinking to myself, what the hell? How long and disruptive is that going to be ?

5. She ask us to continue on with our Excel worksheet because there was an error. There's no such worksheet.

6. Training cost = 4%*Sales Price Minimum $50
Many asked if the minimum of $50 is applicable to the training cost or the sales price.
First they told us its the training cost
Then later she told us its sales price.

Again, wastage of alot of time trying to change the complex formulaes.

Furthermore, all the sales price are above $50 so it doesn't make sense at all. Then again, that's what she said so we didn't really care.

7. We continued doing and it was really intense, I had a lot of drama like overlapping data and I had to start all over again.

Thank god I saved at Question 2 otherwise I would have to start from Question 1 again and that is no joke. It  will waste a lot of my time seriously.

8. Went on to Access quickly, finishing the first 4 parts pretty easily.

9. Then came the horror of the last question where I tried all the methods I knew of and yet I could not get anything when I run the query.
It was completely empty. And of course, I panic but then again after 30 minutes, I gave up and submitted to fate.

10. In the end, after the exam, everyone was asking around if anyone knew how to do the last question and that's when we suddenly realised that it was SUPPOSED to be blank -.-|||

Lame right? The examiner was obviously playing a mind game with us.

But definitely a wake up call for us man !

Oh well, everything went well for Excel and Access in the end. I just hoped that I can manage to secure a good grade for this Quiz.

Bye Bye all !

Updates

Hi all,

Just in case you might be interested.

Here are my results updates so far for the Semester.

Of course, these results are not complete as they do not include the final terms.

AB107 - Business Law

Class Participation : A-

Business Law Assignment : A-

Yeah, I'm not going to lie. I'm definitely sad because I did not get an A for the participation and assignment.

However, I guess this really motivates me to do really well for my Final Terms exam on 20 December which has a hefty weightage of 60%

AA101 - Accounting

Quiz 1 (5%) - 17/20

Quiz 2 (5%) - 10/10

Mid Terms (15%) - 58/60

I was definitely overjoyed that I did very well for my Accounting but there's still a final term paper awaiting me on the 15th December that has a weightage of 50%.

No time to get complacent there.

AB113 - Information Technology

Presentation - A to A+

Class Participation : Unknown

Digital World Project: Unknown

But the final term exam has a weightage of 40%, I definitely need to start memorising some of the more technical terms in the textbook. Definitely has to spend a lot of effort on it even though it might be only 40%.

AB102 - Financial Management

Quiz 1 (15%) 14/15

Quiz 2 (15%) 14/15

For Quiz 2, I got the first question wrong because I circled the wrong answer. I guess this teaches me a great lesson, that I have to look at the answer properly before circling. This is really crucial in the exams that has a weightage of 60%. Apparently it's on the same day as my Business Law, 20 Decemeber. Definitely has to plan my time well ahead.

Yeah, that's the updates for now. If I do get more details on some of the other results like class participation, I will update in the upcoming posts.

Regards,

Aaron Bay

Don't question what you learn

My Financial Management Tutor said this.

You are not qualified to say whether what you are learning now is useful or not.

This is because in the near future, you might just use the most useless thing you learnt at the most critical time.

You just never now when that time will come.

By that time, it will be far too late for you to start learning.

So, right now, we are still in our learning phase in the University and he said that we should try to learn as much as possible because you never know when they just might come in useful.

Well said !

Japanese Vending Machine

TOKYO - For you sir, a canned coffee. And for madam, perhaps a nice cold tea.

A new Japanese canned drink vending machine uses facial recognition technology to "recommend" drinks based on the customer's age and gender -- and sales have tripled over those from regular vending machines as a result.

The machines, developed by JR East Water Business Co, a subsidiary of railway firm JR East Co, use large touch-panel screens with sensors that allow the machine to determine the characteristics of an approaching customer.

"Recommended" labels will then appear on specific drink products. Suggested products may also change depending on the temperature and time of day.

"If the customer is a man, the machine is likely to recommend a canned coffee drink, since men tend to prefer these. If the customer is in their 50s, though, that recommendation is likely to be green tea," a company spokeswoman said.

A woman in her 20s will be recommended a tea drink or slightly sweeter product, since market research has shown that they prefer these.

"We thought it would make it a lot more fun for the customers to have this kind of interaction with our machines, that it would improve the whole buying experience," she added.

The company has so far tested one machine at one Tokyo train station but plans to add five machines on Tuesday at central Tokyo Station, with the network to be expanded to other major Tokyo stations and nearby suburban areas by early in 2011.

Some 500 of the machines should be available in Tokyo and surrounding areas by March 2012.
