What Goes Around Comes Around

Ever feel like you are troubled because you are doing something that you once saw in someone you disliked before ?

Sounds abstract? Well, basically, we human beings hate and the things we hate are de facto our very own guilty pleasures.

To put it simply in layman terms, for instance, when you see people speaking up in class, elaborating on with abstract points continuously, you get irritated and somewhat disgusted. Thinking that he's a showoff, you downplay his intelligence.

But later on, when you speak up in class yourself, did you ever think that you are doing the exact same thing? And that someone in some corner of the class is exactly like you? He hates you because you speak up in class.

But when you think about it yourself, you didn't think that you are being irritating, disgusting or even a showoff. Perhaps, you just want to express your viewpoints. Simple as that.

You would in fact be astonished that someone in the class is actually thinking that you are a showoff. But stop and think back again, didn't you had the exact same thought a while back then of someone else who spoke up earlier than you?

Another example, we always criticise people mugging and that they have no life.

Then later on, when we ourselves mug, we think that we are merely trying to study and hope to gain as much knowledge as possible. Besides, we should in fact be proud of ourselves because it is by no means an easy task to settle oneself down and start to concentrate.

But the same thing happens again, someone else would criticise you mugging. But when you think about it, you don't think you did anything wrong.

Then again, you did criticise people who mug earlier on.

So its really a vicious cycle, what goes around comes around.

But of course, the revelation of the matter per se can actually stop this vicious cycle. In order to not be so guilty when executing your guilty pleasures, try to put yourself in that someone's shoe before you criticise them otherwise, you might be shooting yourself in the foot.

The last example would be a short one. Say someone else is showing off their achievements, rather than condemning them immediately. Think about what you would do in his shoes. Think about whether you did show off your achievements as well, even subtly counts. In fact, if you think deeply, its really not about showing off or being proud, its just that we all hope that someone would share our joy and congratulate us on our achievements.

In this way, you not only trained up to be more understanding, you too will be able to boost your level of emotional intelligence to a great degree.
