Piggy Dolls

They’ve been headlining since the release of their music video for their unconventional style, and were even recently affectionately nicknamed “Super Heavy Idols.”  The members are comprised of Kim Min Sun (20), Lee Jiyeon (20), and Park Jieun (17).

They are actually a new Kpop group. Recently, there have been a plethora number of groups debuting. They are probably riding on the Hallyu wave. This way, they can increase their popularity instantly.

Piggy dolls

However, I feel that because of the rapid introduction of new groups, it dampens the quality of Kpop and people start to ignore the new groups and instead choose to stick to the old groups like SNSD, Big Bang, Super Junior, etc.

However, recently, there is this new group called Piggy Dolls.

In fact, they are an unprecedented group. I have never seen such an interesting group before.

They are all overweight and without a shadow of a doubt, their vocal power are good and they are humble as well.

Unfortunately, because of their unconventional approach (being overweight idols), they were heavily slammed and criticized for their weight, for abetting youths that being overweight is okay and cool.

Piggy Dolls

Well, to a certain extent, the netizens are right, overweight is indeed not very healthy, but then again, I guess this group is just trying to prove that they too can be idols. I seriously doubt that they are promoting an overweight image. In fact, they themselves do not want to be overweight but they naturally gain weight easily.

Having said that, I believe that they are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Standing out from so many rookies instantaneously, it is definitely not an easy feat I must say.

For one thing, they will be successfully if they continue to gain respect from people for their positive mindset along with their extremely powerful vocals.

This goes to show that you can be different and yet strong and popular at the same time.

Check out Piggy Dolls' performances down there.

Centurion

We can't outrun, so we have to outsmart

That's one of the quote in this movie.

Centurion Movie

It is A.D. 117 and the Roman garrisons are struggling to contain the Picts, the Celtic inhabitants of the Scottish Highlands. The Picts, under their king, Gorlacon, are perfecting guerilla warfare and are eliminating Roman outposts one by one. Centurion Quintus Dias is the only survivor of a Pictish raid and is taken prisoner by Vortix. In the meantime, Agricola, the Roman governor of Britannia wants to obtain favour with the central administration, hoping to secure a transfer back to the comforts of Rome. He dispatches the Ninth Legion to the front under General Titus Flavius Virilus, with orders to eradicate the Pict threat, providing him with a mute female Brigantian scout, Etain.

Centurion Movie

As the legion marches north, they encounter and save Dias, who has escaped. Etain, who hates the Romans for murdering her family, betrays the legion to Gorlacon; the Romans walk into a trap and are annihilated.

They met up with a guerilla attack and they have no choice but to strategise against all odds because their army had already been decimated. There is simply no way if they were to go head on with the army based on strength alone.

Centurion Movie

This sounds like how Small-medium enterprises won against those huge conglomerates. They are small but yet they are focused and if they pool their strength together, they create a synergy that can destroy the huge conglomerates.

Centurion

By having a huge force, you might not be able to control them as efficiently and they might end up fighting themselves. As efficiency levels fall, confusion set in. Frustrations rise. And soon, it collapses altogether.

This movie seems to be pretty good, lots of action, pretty well-laid out storyline. But I'm not sure if all they killing might dampen the quality of the movie. We shall see.

Take a look at the trailer if you want.

Starbucks New Logo

Finally, its Starbucks' 40th Anniversary and they have decided to celebrate it with a new logo.

Let's take a look at Starbucks' New Logo

Starbucks New Logo

Howard Schultz says that new logo embraces and respects their identity plus evolves the company to a point that’s more suitable to the future.

Starbucks New Logo

In his letter on a preview site, Schultz says:
On any given day here in Seattle, I might visit that original Pike Place store – but I might also drop in at our newly refurbished Olive Way store. The two store designs couldn’t be any more different – one harkens back to our heritage, the other looks boldly ahead to our future – but at their core, they’re identical, in that they retain the elements that have been true about Starbucks since the very beginning:
- A unique retail experience that creates a Third Place for our customers between their homes and places of work
- A carefully crafted offering of the finest, high-quality coffees from around the world
- The emotional connection that our partners make daily with our customers.

Change is good. In fact, it's the essence of life. However, too often than not, many companies steer themselves in the wrong direction and begin to go off-track. In fact, they lose their direction altogether and end up closing down.

In today's society where competition is so viral, it is easy to start a business but definitely not easy to maintan and sustain one.

Starbucks has done a terrific job at sustaining its business for 40 years and the best part is that it sells coffee, a product that was once known to be a commodity that was so cheap.

In the past, people relied on coffee to energize themselves at work. But today, it has become an experience that people can relish. They enjoy a cup of coffee right at the start of their day, during their tea breaks or even when they are chilling somewhere in the middle of the night.

Coffee has become ubiquitous, Starbucks' Coffee that is.

The most important point about the new logo is that Starbucks is going to continue to focus on its core values, and its key business objective.

That is to provide the consumer with a third place, between their work and home, for them to enjoy themselves. They offer the highest quality coffee in the world and a retail experience that one will never get sick of.

With the unique yet focused experience, along with an immutable core value, Starbucks will definitely be here to stay as it has clearly created a competitive edge that has been unbeatable thus far.

SNSD So Nyuh Shi Dae Girls Generation

2010 was an interesting year for the Japanese music industry, as they were introduced to two of Korea’s hottest girl groups – SNSD (a.k.a. ‘Shoujo Jidai‘) and KARA.

SNSD Girl's Generation

Although they already had support from their Japanese fanbase, these girls managed to win the hearts of general music fans; they not only placed highly on the charts, but they also walked away with a distinguished award each from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).
At the “25th Japan Gold Disc Awards“, KARA and SNSD were named as Japan’s “New Artist of the Year” – KARA received the ‘International’ award, and SNSD attained the ‘Domestic’ award.

SNSD

SNSD named on Asia Today’s list of ‘50 Korean power leaders for 2011′

This is definitely an incredible feat. Even though they debut for less than 4 years, they are now a force to be reckon with.
Girls Generation
They had only debuted in Japan for less than a year and their popularity has been soaring in Japan since then. Not only in Japan though, their popularity is spread throughout the entire world.

America, Asia, Europe, they have spread their influence all over the world now. However, the kpop fever might not last forever so its best that they give it their best and uphold the high quality in Kpop.

If the audience starts to get bored or once the kpop groups start to get complacent, their stand in the world might be weakened and even replaced one day.

There are no evergreen groups in this world and idols are usually easily replaced because of the incessant introduction of new idols. Rarely do idols survive in today's world. Those that do are legends like Beyonce, Elton John, The Beatles, and Celine Dion.

Teenagers today change their choices too rapidly and they are more interested in the new ideas and songs rather than the old ones. So its really important to keep one updated and refreshed before people start to get sick of you. This is similar in the case of the businesses out there, they continue to diversify and cater to the needs of customers by making use of various new and up-coming systems.
SNSD
For now, it is SNSD's world and no doubt they will continue to make use of their clout to empower the world.

Hwaiting!

Apple's era

What better way to start the Year of 2011 than to publish this article?

11 has always been my lucky number and I hope this year will be a great year for me. And I wish all the readers a fabulous year ahead. Remember to use this year 2011 wisely. Today is just 1 January, you have 364 more days to go. Don't go wasting them away.

Apple Apple Apple

Without further ado, let's take a glimpse at Apple's glory.

NEW YORK (AFP) - – Apple dethroned Microsoft as the world's most valuable technology company in 2010 as its co-founder Steve Jobs soared to new heights with the touchscreen iPad tablet computer and the latest iPhone.

Apple iPad

Britain's Financial Times last week named Jobs its "Person of the Year" and even US President Barack Obama joined in the plaudits to the 55-year-old chief executive of the Cupertino, California-based gadget-maker.

Steve Jobs

Jobs' appearance on a San Francisco stage in January to unveil the iPad capped what the FT called "the most remarkable comeback in modern business history."

"It wasn't simply a matter of the illness that had sidelined him for half the year before, leaving him severely emaciated and eventually requiring a liver transplant," the newspaper said.

"Little more than a decade earlier, both Mr. Jobs' career and Apple, the company he had co-founded, were widely considered washed up, their relevance to the future of technology written off," it said.

Obama, at a White House news conference on Wednesday, held up Jobs as an example of the virtues of the "free market."

"We celebrate somebody like a Steve Jobs, who has created two or three different revolutionary products," Obama said. "We expect that person to be rich, and that's a good thing."

The iPad hit stores in the United States in April and Apple reported sales at the end of September of more than eight million of the devices that the FT said offer a glimpse into a world without a computer mouse or Windows.

Other technology firms are trying to match Apple's success with tablets of their own, including South Korea's Samsung, Canada's Research In Motion, maker of the Blackberry, and US computer giants Hewlett-Packard and Dell.

But none has yet to prove capable of preventing Apple from establishing the same dominance over the tablet computer market that it exercises over the MP3 music player scene with the ubiquitous iPod, introduced in 2001.

Goldman Sachs said it expects Apple to ship 37.2 million iPads in 2011 -- "which could potentially make Apple one of the largest vendors in the global personal computing market" -- tablets plus personal computers.

The iPad wasn't Apple's only hit product in 2010.

The iPhone 4, the latest version of the touchscreen smartphone introduced by Apple in 2007, sold 14.1 million units in the quarter which ended in September, up 91 percent over the same quarter a year earlier.

iPhone 4

Even Apple TV, a product Jobs once dismissed as a "hobby," is notching up strong sales. Apple said last week that sales of the latest model of the set-top box that can stream content from the Web had topped one million units.

The rare blemishes on Apple's record in 2010 were its continuing inability to come out with a promised white model of the iPhone 4 and complaints of lost reception due to the radical antenna design on the device.

Apple shares, worth 10 dollars at the end of 2003, gained around 60 percent this year, closing at more than 320 dollars on Wall Street on Thursday.

iPod

In May, Apple surpassed Microsoft as the largest US technology company in terms of market value. The only companies with larger market capitalization than Apple's nearly 300 billion dollars are ExxonMobil and Petrochina.

Meeschaert New York analyst Gregori Volokhine described Apple's rise as "absolutely extraordinary" and said "every analyst has an even higher target price for next year, between 360 dollars and 430 dollars."

"Apple's more than just a company," Volokhine told AFP. "It's become a cultural phenomenon. The hard part now will be not to disappoint."

JC Friends

Today I met up with my JC friends.

Its been like what, 3 years or something? When I saw them, the 2 girls immediately yelled at me for not keeping in contact with them. Haha, I guess it was partly my fault.

Initially, I was just listening to their conversations but after a while, I somehow got used to it and finally we were able to talk. To be honest, initially I was contemplating whether to meet up with them because I was afraid that there would be no common topic and it would be awkward and cold. Its just weird at the start because of the in-familiarity with one another for we have not met up with each other after so long. Fortunately, it was a great experience ! After my last JC friend arrived, we headed down to Geylang for Dim Sum.

Because it was peak hour, we decided to take a cab down to Geylang which costs us only $2 each, pretty reasonable surprisingly.

We then went to this place called 126 near Geylang Lor Wen Dao Shi 搵到食
, the Dim Sums they served were phenomenal, they were de facto the best I ever tasted. Its definitely highly recommended. Every single dish were delicious and in the end we just kept on ordering and ordering incessantly and we ended up with a table full of Dim Sums. Altogether, we choked up a total of $71 worth of Dim Sums. I realised that whenever we got together, we just eat and eat and eat non-stop without giving a damn about the cost. Thankfully, there wasn't any GST or Service Charge man.

Then we went down the road for some durians albeit being so full already. We only ordered one durian though and it costs $40, exorbitant isn't it? Initially the Uncle still told us its $15 per kg, so we thought 2 kg is $30. In the end he got us a 2.5kg durian. Well we took it nonetheless because one of my friend was deprived of durian for so long and she's heading back to Melbourne soon. So we thought we had better grant her wish now since there are no durians back in Melbourne.

After we finished the durian, my friend told me that we can get rid of the durian smell on our hands by using an extra-ordinary method.

1. Switch on the tap and let the water flow onto the spikes of the durians.

2. Put your hands beneath the durian and rinse your hands with the water that flow down from the Durian's spikes. Somehow, the smell of the durian will be gone. Okay, its not completely gone but the smell is almost not noticeable.

After that, we settled in a Coffeebean house for the remaining 2 hours. They shared a lot of stories with me, the ones in NUS of course. Majority were about having many scandalous affairs, making-out sessions and etc. It was really funny, I must say. And very interesting in fact.

I shall not post those scandalous stories here to protect their privacies.

Yeah, that ended the night for today. It was really fun. Meeting up after so long. It was definitely a little awkward initially but after a while, it was like back to the old school days where we talked about anything under the sun. I'm meeting up with them next Monday again.

Good Night everyone.
