BreadTalk

Breadtalk is one of the company i really want to intern at. It began in April 2000, holding a total of 24 retail outlets in Singapore today.
Breadtalk is renowned for 2 factors, it has an incandescent signboard which you can identify from far, far away, and secondly, it has a see-through kitchen, which allows you to see exactly what the chefs are doing and it is a major step forward to promote good hygiene.
In addition, Breadtalk is famous for the fact that they are consistently introducing new breads which are extremely innovative and creative-looking. It just simply entice me when the chefs place each and every one of the piping hot breads onto the trap. Breadtalk is constantly churning out bread as the ones on the tray are grabbed once they are served. They do not bring out new breads if there are still plenty on the trays. This is to ensure that the bread are hot and fresh everytime. How thoughtful!
Below are some of the signature breads that Breadtalk offer and Floss is definitely top on my list !
Floss
Frentaigo
-Golden Pumpkin
Recently, Breadtalk has made a decision to mass open up retail outlets overseas. Some of the locations include China, Indonesia and Thailand. Reason being, new shopping malls are sprouting up in these countries. Stepping on top of this financial crisis, rather be quelled by it, Breadtalk has decided that this will be a fine opportunity to secure a great retail location at a low cost. Furthermore, the cost of the employees and chefs are cheaper and it is easier to hire good ones since many are retrenched now.
On top of that, construction and food costs have plummeted along the way. Prices of steel and bulbs and other appliances have dropped because the housing market has just been hit big time by the financial crisis. Many plans to build additional houses have already been put off due to the sudden increase in the amount of foreclosures by the banks and government authorities.
Therefore, it only makes sense for Breadtalk to hunt for great locations(cheap cost of construction and easy loans).

We don’t do things to be good. Green is green [the color of the US dollar].

Jeffrey Immelt, CEO, General Electric

Well, Jeffrey, that sounds really great, but if you instead said: “We are making green dollars by saving money for consumers and together in one common goal can save the earth”

Stefan Engeseth

I find Stefan's reply intriguing. Why are we till today, even though we understand the destructive power of global warming, still so adamant about conservation of energy? There you have it the answer right above.

Corporations : Save the environment. Buy our products.

But have these corporations ever wonder? Their products are overpriced. Look at organic products, they are priced above average by alot, claiming that they are a healthier choice. But research has just proven that it is not true at all, there are no signs of organic food being healthier than normal ones. So now, they still refuse to mark down the price of organic food, claiming that consumers should still buy them at a higher price because they are planted on land that are more expensive and fertile. No consumer will accept that ridiculous reason man.

Consumers : We want to save the environment, but we have no money. So we inevitably have to look after ourselves first, which is to buy cheaper products that does more damage to the environment in the process of manufacturing.

So here comes a fine solution, help consumers save money by reducing the price of the green products and in turn, they can actually save money.

One good example is to introduce this policy to hotels. Allow people staying in the hotel to receive a rebate if utilise only a small amount of electricity during their stay. Of course, the benchmark has to be reasonable, otherwise the patrons will not even bother saving energy because they believe that that amount of saving is ludicrous and it affects their comfort level. Afterall, they are here to stay and have a pleasurable experience. So it is best not to restrict them to the extent that they can't breathe at all.

Also, supermarkets can mark down the prices of food contained in recycled packets, this will encourage consumers to buy food that are stored in recycled packets. And look, once you bring the food home, you are going to take out the wrapper and throw it away, so does it really matter if it is classy or has a good texture to it? Cut the bullshit and give them proper packaging and that's it. Full stop.

The overall key idea is to ensure that the consumers can save money and at the same time the companies are able to make alot of money.

Simple Equation:

Marked down price x Number of products purchased

MORE THAN

Original price x Number of products purchased

Anticipate

Increasing Workforce Diversity

From now on, in this financial crisis, we will have to take responsiblity of our own employability, we will have to be independent and active in search of courses to improve our relevant skills to better complement our job requirements.

This can be done via 2 ways.

1.Anticipate future needs.

What is your company doing right now? If it is banking, should you take up courses in foreclosures, risk management, wealth management or even actuarial science to better help your bank manage their funds. Try to form coalitions with your colleagues or people from other fields and industries to come up with a fine system to help both of you or other industries. These form of collaborations will actually broaden your network and improve your skills as you gain experience from the others as you work with them on a day-to-day basis.

Also, you can observe the public, look at what they are looking for, step inside their world by moving alongside them. If you are in the consumer business, go to your shop and shop near the customers, identify their needs and concerns using your status as a fellow customer. They will then open up more to you because they know that you are their fellow teammate.

2.Pick up new competencies to meet these needs

This can be done via exchanges through and courses available at job fairs or even learning classes provided by your company. All companies want their own employees to be proficient in what they do in the future because they do not want to spend unnecessary to employ professionals from the outside who appears to be better adapted for the job.

If you are able to save the company that bit of money by taking it up yourself, it will definitely serve your credentials well and you will soon be in the highlight when new projects come along because your boss believes that you are definitely competent enough.

Of course, if you do not have the money to go for courses because you are retrenched, you can try resources from the library or the internet. Check out the podcasts and the online videos which can help you improve your communication skills on the youtube online.

Volunteering and internships can help you too. Although internships pay you a low sum of money, it will definitely provide you with invaluable experience which you might need at your new job.

Therefore, look far, stay away from the myopic thinking and stop fearing that you are just not good enough for the job because there are so many other qualified applicants out there. If you try, there's always a great chance waiting for you ahead.

Good luck !
